How Would You Start Over?

SO today I have now finished college…for this term anyway, and now I have a little time to do some writing and…uh, hmmmm. I haven’t really had time to come up with something great so let’s try this topic:

Ever think about your past (usually the regrets) and think about how you would have done things different? Would you have started different, waited until you had more money, skill, knowledge?

I have lots of areas where I could use a “do over”, most of them are in the personal relationship areas and I don’t mean dating, I mean all of those areas have at one time or another (and another and another and another) needed a serious “Let’s start over”. By the way, have you ever noticed that when someone says “Let’s start over” they usually attach so many conditions to it that it’s not starting over at all? To me ’starting over’ means exactly that, ’start everything over’ not make it so restrictive that I’m just going to say, “You know what, let’s just be superficial and polite with each other and never ever anything else”.

In business I think I’d have started my dream company first. It’s called a holding company and basically it’s a company that owns other businesses either in part or in whole. I would love to be an investor. I’m working on it, but in hindsight I think I would have been better off starting that one first and then this one, especially when I think about how much money I spent on things for this business that I thought would be really helpful and…uh…weren’t.

For a job I think I would have pursued my dream of being an actor far more seriously than I did, because I really didn’t pursue it and I could have. Though I was in an advertisement in a magazine, that was cool.

Of course some things can’t be helped. You may not realize that you don’t actually enjoy what you thought was your dream job until after you got it, your major in college may have gone from “Wow that would be cool” to “I can barely stay awake” because it turns out to be mind-numbingly dull to you. Ms. or Mr. Right did actually turn out to be Ms. or Mr. Right…only in your daydreams.

Sometimes you can change it, sometimes you can’t.

What about you? Do you have any “do-overs” you’d like to fess up?
