Okay, so this is supposed to be a blog about blogging, marketing, and whatever else.
This post falls under the “whatever else” category AND the blogging category (kinda sorta), for which I am eternally grateful. It’s about 1:30 in the morning and I’m taking a break from doing my college homework.
Have you ever run across someone who you thought, “Wow, that’s exactly how I think/feel/react/whatever!”? Like you’re almost a perfect match? I don’t mean finding your soul-mate or anything like that, though that is also possible if you believe in such a thing as soul-mates.
For example, I have a unique sense of humor. Although my humor often falls under word plays, sarcasm, and really lame puns (the more lame they are the more I like them), what makes my humor unique is that it doesn’t actually stick within any one category. I like most styles of humor and I use them as I think of them. I don’t care for crude humor, and if you have to use the f-word and others words like that in every sentence, well that’s not funny nor clever, it’s lame and not the good kind of lame either. Really, get a thesaurus or something if you’re that desperate to fill your 10 minute segment and you can’t do it by using your wit.
People often don’t get my humor, and I’m used to that (kinda sorta…well…okay, not really) but I met this one girl who’s sense of humor was a clone of my own. If you actually knew me in person, this is the part where you would get that expression on your face that conveys shock and disbelief (“Wait, you mean there’s TWO of them?!?”). I don’t know if we had much else in common (I honestly don’t know, we met in passing by coincidentally staying at the same place for a few days) but it was great (for both of us) to have someone who not only got every single one of our jokes but also found them funny. There’s nothing like being in a room full of people laughing at a joke that the entire room didn’t get.
So this brings me to the actual subject of my post. As my long term readers know, I started blogging with the intention of helping people learn how to set up their own blogs. It didn’t matter if it was for internet marketing, business, or a personal blog. And if you’ve been with me from near the beginning, you also know that I’ve allowed posts on here by people showing what they do with their blog. Anyone remember the guest post that was the idea for a movie?
I found another person’s blog where I was blown away by the similarities. How I found this blog was by reading something else that had a link to this blog. The blog is called “Match Dot Wrong” and you can find it at matchdotwrong.blogspot.com It’s a personal blog and this blog follows a twenty-something year old girl on her journey of online dating. I like her writing style, even though it’s often self-depreciating (but then so is mine). She’s a very intelligent, upfront and a well-read lady (What do you mean you have yet to see the similarities? Sheesh!) but in reading her posts it’s like she’s copied what I do, meaning things like: Obsessively checking for responses, unwilling to pick up on the obvious signals because you’re a hopeless romantic at heart, getting emotionally attached very quickly (and often one-sided), over-analyzing everything, etc.
[UPDATED] My description sells her short and I need to clarify that I’m only pointing out the things I saw where we are almost a perfect match (not in a dating sense) and not her biography. I do those things, even when it comes to blog comments (on other people’s blogs where I’ve left comments). On her I’m sure it’s more of a cute, endearing kind of thing whereas on me it’s more of a pathetic loser kind of thing. Some of the good things in common that I also enjoy are: Disney movies (and other kid’s movies for that matter), chocolate ice cream, cooking/baking, and some other things. But again, not in a dating sense.
Her posts are full of metaphors and analogies covering baking, sports, and literary references. I was disappointed by one of her posts though. It was called “Who’s on first?” and I thought she’d mention the classic comedy sketch by Abbot and Costello. The title was a sports analogy with a dual meaning, but no reference to one of the funniest comedy sketches ever made. Other than that, I’d hate to go head to head with her in a debate, she’s certainly more intelligent than I am.
[UPDATED] In any case, it’s unlikely that she’ll ever happen across this blog, but if you enjoy reading people’s personal blogs, especially blogs with a personality, then definitely give her’s a view. And if you’re a single guy 6′+, blond haired and blue eyed between the ages of 25-33 then drop her a comment and tell her I said “Your Welcome”. 🙂
