I only watched a couple of episodes of The X-Files, but one of the few things I remember is when the guy, and I don’t remember his name, came back to his office after the girl, whose name I also cannot remember, had vanished, I think it was the first episode of a new season. He came back, looked around the office with the dust and stuff, then went to the calendar and took a whole bunch of months and attached them to the top because he’d been gone for a long time.
That’s about how I feel. I’m taking the Fall term off from college and as I sit here and think about my various blogs and whatnot, that scene keeps running through my head and I try to figure out where to start. It feels like I’m trying to clear out the cobwebs, wipe up a ton of dust, and start to straighten things up.
The difference is, instead of doing it with the enthusiasm as you do when you purchase that antique fixer-upper and you’re looking forward to restoring it, this is kind of depressing. Like when you move back to your ancestral home where the walls have holes, doors missing, windows broken, and you remember how it was in your youth, vibrant, colorful, full of life, not desecrated and forlorn as you try to get it back to it’s former glory.
Not that any of my stuff had any glory mind you, and a lot of it was automated and is still chugging along, but it’s still the same feeling. I haven’t touched any of it, more or less, since January and I can’t escape the feeling of abandonment. Especially since I’ll be going back to school in the Winter term.
So much straightening up to do, and time is so fleeting.
Of course the automated parts only need to be checked on, after all the whole purpose of automation is so you don’t have to touch it, but the automation isn’t perfect, several articles were posted that had little, or nothing, to do with the blog’s topic.
I used to keep a close eye on that but I haven’t had the time. Sigh.
